Visit of the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina



Ms. Mary Ann Hennessey, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, paid a visit today to the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a part of the customary relations between the Council of Europe and Constitutional Court of BiH.

The President of the Constitutional Court of BiH, Mirsad Ceman and Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in BiH, Ms. Mary Ann Hennessey, talked about the work of the Constitutional Court of BiH, current relations of the Council of Europe and the Constitutional Court of BiH, implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights as well as on cooperation with the European Commission for Democracy Through Law (Venice Commission) in terms of promoting and improving human rights protection. This cooperation was found to have been both useful and successful.

On behalf of the Council of Europe, Ms. Mary Ann Hennessey expressed the support to the work and results achieved by the Constitutional Court while particularly emphasizing the significance and role of the Constitutional Court in the legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ms. Hennessey emphasized that the Council of Europe gives particular attention to implementation of the court decisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina in general but in particular the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an important instrument of the rule of law, legal security and human rights protection.

The Council of Europe recognizes professional and impartial work of the Constitutional Court of BiH as a guardian of the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
