Seminar on the topic of “The Right to Property within the meaning of Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights”

 

The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with AIRE Centre (Advice on Individual Rights in Europe) and with the support of the British Embassy, organized a seminar on the topic of “The Right to Property within the meaning of Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights”. The seminar was organized with the aim to create conditions for the improvement of the practical application of the European Convention on Human Rights and to support the judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of the preparation for European integration.

The Registrar of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zvonko Mijan addressed the participants in the seminar with a welcome speech, extending his support to the work of the seminar.

The lecture on the topic of “The Right to Property within the meaning of Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights” was held by Nikolina Katić, Assistant Agent of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights and by Sevima Sali-Terzić, Senior Legal Advisor at the Constitutional Court of BiH. Ms. Katić spoke with the participants in the seminar about the standards and principles through the case-law of the European Court focusing on the most significant cases from the case-law of the European Court against the Republic of Croatia, such as Vuković v. RC, Tilocca v. RC, and Statileo v. RC. Ms. Sali-Terzić addressed the case-law of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the application of the standards and principles of the protection of the right to property. Through practical exercises, quizzes and moot court, participants had the chance to practice the application of the standard of the right to property through different situations (expropriation, the issue of nationalized property, a permit for construction, pensions and other social security contributions, customs and customs violations etc.). Advisors and associates of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the seminar.

Participants in the seminar exchanged their views and positions about the case-law of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Court of Human Rights, with an aim to contribute to the comprehensive protection of human rights and freedoms of every citizen.
