At the invitation of the President of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, the President of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valerija Galić, attended the Conference entitled “The Role of the Judiciary in Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights”. The Conference was held on 21 September 2023 in Riga, Latvia. The Head of the Constitutional Case Law Section Ermina Dumanjić also attended the Conference.
The Conference was organised under the Latvian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe with the aim of strengthening the common values within the European legal space and a dialogue among the European courts. The Conference had a plenary session and two separate sessions. The Conference addressed the following topics: “Importance of execution of ECtHR judgments as a safeguard of the European rule of law”; “Core of national constitutional identities as an obstacle to execution of the ECtHR judgment”; “The dialogue between the ECtHR and national judges in the implementation of the Court’s judgments”; Res judicata and reopening of proceedings after ECtHR judgments”; “Supervision of national measures of execution of judgments of ECtHR and separation of powers” and “Future outlook: foreseeable challenges with regard to the execution of judgments of the ECtHR”.
President Galić met with the President and Judges/Senators of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, Presidents and Judges of other European Constitutional and Supreme Courts, prominent legal experts, who attended the Conference. She used the opportunity to exchange opinions on the very topic of the Conference, as well as on other current constitutional law issues.
