The AIRE Centre (Advice on Individual Rights in Europe) and Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have co-organized, in cooperation with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an Annual Conference on ”Right to a Reasoned Judgment – Mandatory Standard in Court Proceedings ” within the Judicial Form for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Conference is being held on 6 and 7 November 2017 at the Hotel Bristol in Sarajevo.
The Conference is focused on the standards of the European Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in regards to the right to a reasoned decision as the key element of the right to a fair trial. The attendees discussed the case-law of the courts in BiH within the context of these standards aimed at improving the quality of judicial decisions, legal security and protection of rights of the citizens in BiH.
The Conference was attended by around 60 representatives of the highest courts in BiH: President, Vice-Presidents and Judges, Registrar and Heads of the Departments of the Constitutional Court of BiH, members of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) and administrative staff of the Secretariat of the HJPC, President, Vice-President and Judges of the Constitutional Court of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vice-President and Judges of the Constitutional Court of RS, President, Judges and Registrar of the Court of BiH, President and Judges of the Supreme Court of F BiH, Judges of the Supreme Court of the Republika Srpska, President and Judges of the Appellate Court of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, President of the Judicial Commission of the Brčko District of BiH, Directors of the Centres for Education of Judges and Prosecutors in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska as well as national and international legal experts attending the Conference upon invitation of the AIRE centre.
The first annual Conference within the Judicial Forum for BiH was opened by Mr. Mirsad Ćeman, President of the Constitutional Court of BiH. The attendees were also addressed by Mr. Selim Karamehić, member of the HJCP of BiH, Mr. Matthew Lawson, Deputy Head of Great Britain to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Biljana Braithwaite, AIRE Centre Western Balkans Program Manager.
The judicial forum for BiH was organized with the assistance by the British Government aimed at promoting the application of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and supporting the judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of preparation for European integrations. The forum should contribute to additional improvement of cooperation among the highest judicial instances in Bosnia and Herzegovina and harmonisation of the case-law in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as harmonisation with the European standards and thus to the legal security of all citizens in BiH.

The eighth annual conference as part of the Judicial Forum for Bosnia and Herzegovina on the topic of “The role of the highest courts and the Constitutional Court of BiH in the harmonisation of case law in prosecuting organised crime and corruption cases” was held in Sarajevo today
