On 13 October 2022, the lawyers of the Office of the Registrar in the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended a seminar entitled Efficiency of Court Proceedings in Legal Theory and Practice of the European Court of Human Rights in Sarajevo. The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina organised the seminar with the support of the AIRE Centre the Western Balkans Program.
Ms. Sevima Sali-Terzić, Registrar of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina opened the seminar with a welcoming speech.
Mr. Andrej Matić, Ph.D., Legal Advisor in the Legal Service of the European External Action Service spoke about the duration, costs and prospects of court proceedings. A functional and efficient judicial system is necessary for the rule of law, which can be attained through rationalisation of the proceedings, avoiding unnecessary costs and consistent application of the case law, Dr Matić pointed out.
The AIRE Centre supports the professional training of lawyers of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the framework of the project Strengthening judicial response to serious and organised crime and impunity in BiH which is being implemented from 2022 to 2025 with the funding from the Government of the United Kingdom. Some of the overall aims of the project are to increase the consistency and transparency of national case law and its alignment with good case law, decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Convention on Human Rights, especially in the criminal justice sphere.
