Upon invitation from the President of the Constitutional Court of Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Gresa Caka-Nimani, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, composed of Vice-President Mirsad Ćeman and Head of the Constitutional Case Law Section, Ermina Dumanjić, attended the International Conference entitled “Contribution of Constitutional Courts in Protecting and Strengthening Fundamental Values of Democracy, Rule of Law, and Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms”. The Conference was held on 24 October 2023 in Pristina, Kosovo.
This International Conference was held on the occasion of marking the 14th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo. The work of the Conference was carried out in the three sessions. The topics of the sessions were: “The Role of Constitutional Courts in Strengthening the Values of Democracy and Rule of Law through Abstract Control of Constitutionality of Norms”, “The Role of Supranational Courts in the Decision-Making of Constitutional Courts: the Interaction with the European Court of Human Rights, Court of Justice of the European Union, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Venice Commission” and “The Role of Constitutional Courts in Protecting Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms through Individual Control of Constitutionality of Acts of Public Authorities”. Within the second session, Vice-President Ćeman presented his paper entitled “Impact of the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights on the Case Law of the National Courts in BiH”.
The presidents, vice-presidents, judges of the constitutional courts and other highest courts as well as legal experts attended the Conference. Vice-President Ćeman used the opportunity to exchange opinions on the topic of the Conference and current issues of the constitutional judiciary.
