Professor Grasso completed the Master’s degree in Law at the University of Catania in 1972.
He held judicial positions from 1976 to 1986, first as an investigating judge at the Tribunal in Milan. Afterwards he was placed in the Legislative Office of the Ministry of Justice. He is a professor at the Criminal Law and European Criminal Law Department at the Law Faculty of the Catania University. From 2009 to 2017, he was the Director of the Specialization School for Legal Professions “A. Galati” of the Catania University.
He is a member of the Catania Bar and enrolled in the special register of licensed defence barristers for the Superior Courts. He was a member of the Defence Counsel of the Municipality of Catania until June 2018. He is also a member and contact point for Italy in the European Criminal Law Network (ECLAN). He also serves as the President of the Centre for European Criminal Law in Catania.
He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Syracuse International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, member of the Board of Trustees for the liquidation of the Association La Margherita - Giustizia e Libertá, Rome. He was also a director and coordinator of investigating projects in the field of criminal law and European criminal law. He is the author of a large number of professional and scientific works published in prominent European scientific papers. He was the member of numerous scientific and professional bodies in the field of criminal law and participant in the conferences and working bodies dealing with international cooperation in criminal matters. He served as the member of the Human Rights Chamber for Bosnia and Herzegovina from March 1996 to December 2003. He was the Vice-President of the Chamber from December 1998 to December 2002 and President of the Second Panel.
He served as a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina from January 2017 to April 2020.
